Strictly’s Giovanni too busy to go on holiday – but loves ‘underrated’ UK town

Strictly star Giovanni Pernice says he’s too busy to go on holiday – but he’s fallen in love with Stevenage.

The dancer says his workaholic ways leave little time for jetting off to foreign climes.

But he does like exploring the towns he visits when on tour with the BBC1 show. And he reckons Hertfordshire has a couple of gems.

He said: “The Strictly tour has taken me all over the UK. I loved Glasgow and Liverpool, and the smaller towns, such as Stevenage and St Albans, are really underrated.

“I sometimes get a few days off when I’m on tour, and a few months ago when I was in Plymouth, I had two days to explore the beautiful coast.

“I was on my own, walking on the beach in the fresh air and rain. I absolutely loved it.”

The 32-year-old added: “I’m such a workaholic, I don’t really do holidays. I’ve never been on a mates’ break.

“However, in May, during my only week off this year, I went to Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados.

“It’s private, but the paparazzi still got pictures of me on the beach. The beauty of it is the food, the atmosphere and the weather.

“I love a couple of days off, and it’s so important to have time to chill.

“But when it comes to more than two or three days, I’m like, ‘OK, let’s do ­something’,” Giovanni told a travel supplement.

The Italian hunk recently revealed that filming for his secret TV project has wrapped.

He wrote: " And that’s a wrap .. the last 3 weeks away filming something very special and I can’t wait to share it all with you ! Now back to London and ready to put my dance shoes back on …@bbcstrictlyhere I come!"
