This Morning star Matty Lock, 19, seen helping community in final pic before tragic death
This Morning star Matty Lock was shown helping his local community in the final photograph of him before his tragic death at the age of 19.
Matty, who was a member of the Labour party in Merseyside and was recently elected as a councillor in the town of Maghull, was pictured wearing a red high-vis vest while sweeping up rubbish and leaves from the ground in the newly unearthed snap.
Matty’s death was announced at the weekend in a statement by This Morning, who described him as a 'delightful young man'.
Matty owned 150 vacuums and first sat down with the show’s current presenter Holly Willoughby and former host Philip Schofield three years ago to talk about his hobby – explaining that he had turned it into a business and would take them apart and fix them before returning them to their owners.
On Monday’s episode, 11 September, Holly, 42, and co-host Dermot O'Leary paid tribute to the “much-loved member of This Morning family”.
The final photos of Matty were uploaded to X, formerly known as Twitter, last month. Some of his photos were simply of Maghull, while one was a selfie with a colleague as they tidied up the local area. Matty wrote as a caption: "Great work by Cllr Ken Hughes clearing the subway today, we have washed the walls and cut the hedges."
In their statement released after his death, This Morning bosses said: "Everyone at This Morning is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Matty Lock, aged just 19.
"He was a delightful young man, a joy to work with and his passion for vacuum cleaners and general mechanics was infectious. His family came to the studio and they were so proud that he’d turned a childhood hobby into a career. We will miss him and send our condolences to his family."
At the beginning of Monday’s show, host Dermot, 50, said: "We've got some heartbreaking and horrible news to share with you this morning. One of the This Morning family members, Matty Lock, passed away this weekend.”
Holly added: "He was a much loved member of This Morning family and never failed to bring joy to our studio, with an infectious passion for technology and gadgets, which was truly unique."
Gyles Brandeth went on to describe Matty's passing as "shocking", while Holly said he would be missed by everyone on the show. "We send our deepest condolences to his family," she added as they remembered Matty's passion for gadgets.
After news of his death emerged, stars of This Morning sent messages of condolence on social media. Host Craig Doyle said: "Ah no, what a lovely young man, this is such tragic news. Rest in Peace, Matty."
Former This Morning star Rylan Clark also sent his own tribute, saying: "God, that’s really sad. Sending love x." Meanwhile Holly wrote: "Just so unbelievably sad… such a lovely and talented young man… sending my love to his friends and family, this must be such a difficult time."
