Channel 4 deny Married At First Sight ‘is fake’ as they slam ‘staged’ claims

MAFS: First trans bride discussing why she deserves love

Channel 4 have denied claims that Married At First Sight is fake after reports emerged they staged scenes in the upcoming series.

The show returns on September 18 and viewers will see the first ever trans participant Ella Morgan, who was born male and transitioned into a woman when she was 20, marry and take some hours to tell her new husband her gender history.

It appears that the man is left in shock when he learns he has just wed a trans woman.

The channel subsequently admitted that they had in fact informed him about Ella’s background before they married, leading to claims that they had duped viewers.

However a Channel 4 Spokesperson defended the show’s integrity explaining to Express.co.uk: “Whilst Ella’s groom had been made aware that she was a trans woman, their on screen meeting was the first opportunity for her to talk to her new husband about her transition, in detail and in person.

“What viewers see on screen is the genuine reaction of Ella and her groom on meeting for the first time and having the opportunity to discuss their respective personal stories.

“Prior to this, and in keeping with the format of the show, the couple had never met or spoken and were strangers.”

The premise of Married At First Sight, which is aired E4, sees contestants marry without knowing who they are tying the knot with until they meet them at the altar.

Therefore, by not revealing Ella’s identity to her mystery groom technically they have adhered to the premise.
