The Nolans sister Maureen can’t retire at 69 despite millions of records sold
Maureen Nolan has revealed she is still not able to retire aged 69, despite being the longest-serving member of chart-topping girl group The Nolans.
The star, who sold millions of records alongside her sisters at the height of their fame, has also admitted she is having to rent home without savings or a pension.
In an interview with the Mirror, Maureen said she believes her family were naive victims of those looking to profit from their fame early on in their careers.
The Nolans, which also included the likes of Linda Nolan and Coleen Nolan, were one of the biggest girl groups of all time thanks to their touring stint with Frank Sinatra and huge hits like Mood for Dancing.
However, Maureen has since revealed that their success was not enough to carry her into a comfortable retirement.

“I need to keep working,” she explained. “We thought we’d be comfortably set up by this point in our lives, but I don’t have a pension, I don’t have any savings and I rent a house.
“When I split up from my husband in 2016, we sold our home. I couldn’t have bought a new place without a mortgage and at my age you can’t get a mortgage.
“I never thought I would ever rent. It would be nice to have just enough money to say, ‘OK, I’m out of here, showbiz-wise.’ But I don’t have that.”

Despite singing with The Nolans for 31 years, Maureen revealed it wasn’t her sisters that reaped the main rewards of their hard work.
“We made millions, well, somebody made millions, but not us. I think we were ripped off a bit along the way,” she revealed.
“We were probably a bit young and naive. We were very happy and we trusted people to handle our affairs. Looking back, that might be where it went awry. I sometimes think, ‘What happened to that?’”
The star went on to admit that she does “worry about money”, as she described showbusiness as a “feast or famine”.
“When you’re earning, you’re earning a lot, but then you can be out of work for six months,” she confided. “Of course, I worry about money and the older I get the more I worry. They say money doesn’t buy happiness, but it makes misery a little bit easier, I think.”
Maureen is currently touring in Calendar Girls The Musical which has been such a hit in its four-month run that it has now been extended to June of next year.
The musical, which was co-written by Take That legend Gary Barlow, follows a group of women in a small Yorkshire town who raise money for charity by appearing in a nude calendar.
