Will 'Clean House' with Niecy Nash Ever Come Back to TV?
Before there was Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, there was Clean House. The granddaddy of decluttering and house cleaning shows aired on the Style Network from 2003 to 2011.
The show – which was hosted by comedian Niecy Nash for 9 of its 10 seasons – employed a team of organizing and design pros as they attempted to “rescue families from a cluttered home.” After helping a family dig through their junk, the team would organize a yard sale and then use the proceeds (plus some matching funds) to redo a space in the home.
The show has been off the air for years, but is there a
chance it could come back to TV? Fans can hope.
The cast reunited in 2015
In 2015, several years after Clean House was cancelled, the four best-known cast members – Nash,
Matt Iseman, Trish Suhr, and Mark Brunetz – reunited for an appearance on
Hallmark’s Home & Family.
The cast discussed some of their memories from the show, including the costumes they would sometimes wear during the yard sales and Iseman’s tendency to fall asleep on the job. They also recalled one woman who was definitely not happy with the way her home makeover turned out.
“It was the first episode where we revealed this amazing,
beautiful space,” Brunetz recalled, “And she just said, ‘I hate it.’”
Nash, who was exhausted from working days filming the show and nights on the movie Guess Who, was so tired she initially didn’t realize what was happening. “That lady got to crying and wailing in there,” Nash recalled. “And I said, ‘What is going on?’”
Fortunately, most people who appeared on the show had the opposite reaction and were grateful for the help clearing out their messy, junk-filled homes.
Other home design shows have been revived
In the past few years, several popular home design shows from the same era as Clean House
Sadly for fans, there haven’t been any plans announced for a
Clean House revival. Most of the key
cast members are busy with other projects. Nash currently stars in Claws on TNT. Iseman is the host of American Ninja Warrior. Brunetz has his
own interior design firm (he even designed Nash’s home) and is the author of Take the U Out of Clutter. Suhr is a
lifestyle blogger, comedian, and hosts Daily
Draw on the Game Show Network.
Not only are the show’s former stars busy, but the network Clean House originally aired on no longer exists. The show originally ran on the Style Network, which eventually turned into the Esquire Network before shutting down completely in 2017. However, you can watch old episodes of the show on E!
