Why isn’t Jesy Nelson appearing in the live final of Little Mix: The Search?

Earlier today, it was announced that Little Mix band member Jesy Nelson would not be joining Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock for the final of Little Mix: The Search.

Tonight’s final on BBC One will see four bands battle it out in a bid to win the music competition and join Little Mix on their upcoming Confetti Tour in 2021.

The bands in the final of the competition are Nostalia, Since September, Melladaze and YChange, with Perrie, Jade and Leigh-Anne set to deliver a performance during the programme.

So why is Jesy not going to appear in tonight’s show?

Why is Jesy Nelson missing the live final of Little Mix: The Search?

On Saturday 7 November, a representative for Little Mix announced that Jesy, 29, would not be appearing in the final of the competition alongside her fellow band members and judges.

The statement released by the rep read: ‘Jesy is unwell and will not be appearing on tonight’s final of Little Mix The Search.’

They also added that Jesy will not be joining Leigh-Anne, Jade and Perri to host tomorrow night’s MTV Europe Music Awards.

‘She will also not be hosting or performing at tomorrow’s MTV EMAs,’ they said.

What have the other members of Little Mix said about Jesy’s absence from the final?

Earlier today, Little Mix shared a post on Twitter expressing their excitement for tonight’s final.

‘Can you believe tonight’s the FINAL of @LMTheSearch!! We’re unbelievably proud of all 6 bands and we can’t wait to see the final 4 perform!’ the tweet read.

They also paid tribute to Jesy, writing: ‘We’re so sad Jesy won’t be able to join us tonight, but we have such an amazing show in store for you all x’

When did Jesy last appear on Little Mix: The Search?

Jesy last appeared on the BBC programme on Friday night, when she joined the rest of the band for the semi-final of the competition.

The semi-final had originally been due to take place last Saturday, but was postponed due to a speech delivered by Boris Johnson about lockdown.

What other setbacks has Little Mix: The Search experienced?

The audition stages of the competition were originally due to be shown on TV in April.

However, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, this was delayed five months, not airing until September.

Following that, the first live show of Little Mix: The Search was postponed by a week after it emerged that several people working as part of the show’s crew had contracted coronavirus.

Little Mix: The Search airs tonight on BBC One at 6pm.
