Vera season 11 premiered on August 29 and once again has captured fans’ attention. Sadly, the third episode of the new season will not be airing tonight, leaving fans wondering when it will return. The ITV show may have just returned, but it could be some time before viewers get to see more.

Why is Vera not on tonight?

Vera, starring Brenda Blethyn as the title character, has been running for a decade now, first making its debut in 2011.

Over the course of the past 10 years, the show has only increased in popularity, with season 11 being the most anticipated season so far.

Season 10 came to a close in February 2020, leading to an incredibly long wait for it to return.

Sadly, Vera, like many other shows, was caught in the coronavirus pandemic, leading to several delays in filming.

Not only was the release date of season 11 pushed back, but filming had to be halted entirely.

As a result, only two episodes have been able to be released for the 11th season.

ITV have not confirmed when Vera will air its remaining episodes, meaning there could be a significant wait for more.

It is known that it won’t be back until 2022, as there is still a significant amount of filming to be done.

Filming is taking place right now, with the cast and crew recently being spotted in Whitley Bay and Tynemouth.

The shoot was originally pushed back into the autumn, but ongoing restrictions have inevitably led to a longer production cycle.

There are six episodes in total slated for season 11, so there is still plenty more Vera to come for fans.

Regarding the situation with season 11, the show’s Executive Producer Phil Hunter released a statement.

Hunter explained: “At this point, we all need a bit of optimism and some new content. It’s great to be at the point we have the first two new episodes completed, I’m really looking forward to seeing them hit our screens and hope that everyone enjoys them.

“It’s also really exciting to be back in production on the next four episodes. The viewers have plenty to look forward to.”

So far in the new season, a contractor was found dead on the steps of the Collingwood Monument in Tynemouth during the first episode.

Events got more complex when a detective realises that he was set to testify in an upcoming trial.

In the second episode, Vera looks into the death of Angela Konan (played by Karlina Grace-Paseda), who was recently found left on the grounds of the national park.

In classic Vera style, Angela’s death was not what it first appeared, as she had a serious argument with two of her clients just a week before her death.

The plots for the remaining episodes remain to be revealed, with ITV announcing little about the new episodes.

As filming is already underway, the earliest fans should expect Vera’s return is early 2022.

Vera is available to watch on the ITV Hub.
