It was announced on Friday, August 18 that actress Jane Whittenshaw had passed away.
The EastEnders actress died ‘peacefully’ surrounded by her husband, best friend and carers, according to her agent.
The statement read: ‘It is with profound sadness we must announce the passing of Jane Whittenshaw, a much loved and highly respected client of over 30 years.’
‘She slipped away peacefully on Saturday last, with her husband Hugh, best friend Rebecca and carers at her side.’

The late Jane Whittenshaw played social worker, Anita Banks.
Anita appeared on the show across multiple episodes in 1997.
She was introduced as she helped Mark Fowler (Todd Carty) and Ruth Fowler (Caroline Paterson) apply to foster a child.
Anita arranged for them to foster their first child, Jessie Moore.
What other roles did Jane Whittenshaw play throughout her career?
As well as starring in EastEnders, Jane acted across many popular shows, including The Bill, Casualty and Grange Hill.
However, she is perhaps most familiar with modern audiences for her roles in Call the Midwife and Broadchurch.

In the BBC One midwife drama, she played Nurse Barrington, a character who appeared in the 2017 series.
In Broadchurch, which followed detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman), she portrayed Linda, who featured in the 2017 series that saw Alec and Ellie investigate the rape of Trish Winterman (Julie Hesmondhalgh).
Her final role was on All 4’s series, I Hate You, in 2022.
