Who is the singer who wrote ‘A Little Love’ for John Lewis’ Christmas advert

Celeste is the first singer chosen to write and record an original song for the famous John Lewis Christmas advert.

The high street giant normally have one of Britain's biggest musicians perform a cover of a classic hit for their festive advert, but opted to stray away from this tradition.

Celeste, a British-Jamaican singer has given her impressive vocal range to the track titles A Little Love, which will feature in the background of the two-minute advertisement.

The singer who was born in Culver City, California published her first song, Born Again on streaming service Soundcloud back in 2014.

Her debut single, Daydreaming, was released under Bank Holiday Records in October 2016 – taken from her EP, The Milk & the Honey.

Since then, she has gone on to release 13 singles, with her debut self-titled album set for release in January 2021.

Celeste, whose real name is Celeste Epiphany Waite has often been praised by music critics, with some comparing her vocal to the late Amy Winehouse.

In 2017, she moved to London after living in Saltdean, close to Brighton with just £100.

She was later fired from her job as she would skip work in order to make music.

In December 2019, she was announced as the winner of the Rising Star Award at the Brits, and a month later she was crowned the winner of BBC Music's Sound Of 2020.

Celeste follows a select few artists who have received both prestigious awards, such as Adele and Sam Smith.

Speaking at the time, she said: "2019 was an incredible year for me and I could never have predicted half of the things that happened."

Ten pence from each download of A Little Love will go to the charity campaign, while 100 per cent of the money made from the campaign merchandise will go to charity.

The partnership said it is aiming to raise £4 million for two charities – FareShare, which helps those facing food poverty and Home-Start, which works with parents who need support.

John Lewis has joined with Waitrose for the campaign which launches at 7am on their respective social media channels.
