Who is Liam Charles? Liam Bakes host, former GBBO star and Bake Off: The Professionals host

LIAM Charles shot to fame after making a huge impression on The Great British Bake Off – and is now hosting Channel 4's Bake Off: The Professionals.

But, what else do we know about the young chef – or "Cake boy" as his friends call him…

Who is Liam Charles?

Hackney-born Liam studies Drama and Theatre Arts at Goldsmiths where he was nicknamed “Cake Boy” among his uni friends because of his love of baking.

He aimed to take the coveted Bake Off title despite not being the best in his school's LGBT baking competition.

For the contest, he created a double chocolate cake with chocolate shards and cream to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender history month.

The student eventually lost to a pink triangle cake symbolising the symbol worn by persecuted gay men and lesbian women in Nazi concentration camps.

Liam took to Instagram in 2017 to announce that he'd be appearing in the GBBO, posting an image captioned: "Alright Alright……..busted. But hey at least ITS OUT NOW!!! #GBBO #greatbritishbakeoff".

He was a fan favourite but failed to reach the final.

What are Liam Charles' best moments on Bake Off: The Professionals?

On May 6, 2018, Liam was announced as the presenter of Bake Off: The Professionals for Channel 4.

The show – known as Bake Off: Crème de la Crème while it was on the BBC – sees 12 professional baking duos compete in heats judged by pastry chefs Cherish Finden and Benoit Blin, who have been with the show since its start in 2016.

Liam Charles has said that one of the best moments for him on Bake Off: The Professionals is getting to work with the team.

He said "To be fair it’s always been great working with Tom, it doesn’t ever feel like work at all.  I think the more we do it we get better, it’s well fun and a great journey to be on together."

What time is Bake Off: The Professionals on?

The second episode of the show airs tonight, on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

It will be shown on Channel 4, and begin at 8pm.

Just like previous seasons, there will be ten episodes of the show.

What is Liam's Bakes?

Liam Bakes, which started on Channel 4 in November 2018, was a six-part series starring Liam and his baking brilliance.

The show saw Liam producing marvellous cakes and other dishes.

His nan Cynthia also made cameo appearances int eh show, which was filmed in his home town of Hackney.

Speaking about his new show Liam said: "I pinch myself every day. To have a show about what I love to bake is awesome."
