Tipping Point presenter Ben Shephard quickly defended himself when a contestant thought he was making a dig at her age.

The Good Morning Britain host, 47, welcomed three new hopefuls into the ITV studio to take on the infamous machine in a chance to win £10,000.

After the first player was knocked out, it was left down to Rhiannon and Sharon who went head to head to make it through to the next round.

Ben asked Rhiannon: "The Great Fire of Pontypandy is the title of a 2009 film based on which children's TV show?"

Rhiannon admitted she had no idea and passed it over to Sharon, who guessed Ivor the engine, which made the presenter's jaw drop.

"I don't know if that's right but it's the only one I can think of that might be something to do with Wales," she added.

Visibly confused by the answer, Ben responded: "Okay… Rhiannon do you have any idea what Ivor the engine was about?"

A baffled Rhiannon suspected it could have something to do with Thomas the Tank Engine as Ben clarified: "Well it's about train! It's about a Welsh train called Ivor."

Believing the presenter was taking a cheeky swipe at her age, Sharon exclaimed: "I'm not that ancient, Ben!"

Defending himself, Ben insisted: "No Ivor was on when I was a kid, Sharon!"

Slight taken aback by the comment, Sharon joked: "Oh rub it in, rub it in!"

Only yesterday, the game show host gave a health update after a horror injury left him needing surgery.

The dad-of-two was left in agony after he fractured his leg, ruptured his ACL and tore his meniscus while playing football.

He has kept fans updated during his hospital stay by sharing pictures and videos on his Instagram page.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said: "My leg is alright, it’s 80 percent," before joking: "Not up to Strictly that’s for sure."
