Tipping Point host Ben Shephard has paid tribute to a contestant on Wednesday's episode (May 4) who has died.
Posting to Twitter ahead of the show airing, Ben revealed that one of the quiz programme's three players – retired school bus driver Cath from Bolton – has sadly passed away since recording the episode.
He later sent love to her family and friends.
Posting a picture of himself with Cath on social media, Ben wrote: "Today's Tipping Point is a poignant one… since recording the show, lovely contestant Cath, pictured backstage here, has passed away.
"Our thoughts and love are with her family and friends."
Posting their own responses to Cath's untimely passing, Tipping Point viewers also shared their condolences.
One viewer wrote: "May Cath rest in peace. Condolences to the family."
Another commented: "RIP Cath."
A third fan said: "Sad to hear about Cath. RIP."
Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: "So sad….apparently poor Cath died just after this show was recorded. RIP Cath."
"Bye Cath. Well played, obviously a nice lady and I hope this was one off her bucket list. RIP," another concluded.
In the wake of Cath's passing, a statement was also released by the official Tipping Point Facebook page ahead of her episode reaching air.
It reads: "After the recording of today's programme, we spoke with Cath's family who shared the sad news of Cath's passing.
"Everyone at Tipping Point would like to extend their sincerest sympathies."
Cath sadly became the first player eliminated from the episode, having competed on the show while sitting on a high-rise chair.
After being eliminated, she said: "I don't want to go home.
"Thank you for having me."
The sad news of Cath's passing follows a contestant on Tuesday's episode 'making Tipping Point history' on the ITV show.
Tipping Point airs from 4pm on weekdays on ITV.
