Airing on Monday, May 24, the highly-anticipated episode saw the Top 4 hitting the stage in the final phase of the competition. That night, the remaining artists each performed a ballad and an uptempo cover song in front of coaches Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, John Legend and Blake Shelton.
Kicking off the night was Team Kelly’s Kenzie Wheeler who performed “Heartland” by George Strait. Blake said that the performance was “really cool” and “really good,” adding, “That was good because Dusty had the mullet at the beginning of that movie ‘Pure Country’. I’m glad you teaching Kelly some country music.”
Following it up was Team John’s Victor Solomon as he opted to sing “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Bonnie Raitt. He dedicated the song to his partner Ciarra and Nick commented, “I loved your dedication, in the beginning, it was beautiful. I happen to have met my wife on Twitter as well, I get it.” He continued, “This is a phenomenal performance for so many reasons. But first, you are so creative vocally. There were three or four moments where I just had to sit back and go, what am I hearing. To make this song which is one of the best ever written and to make it your own was really well done. I am proud of you.”
Later, Team Blake’s Jordan Matthew Young sang “Key to the Highway” by Eric Clapton. John raved about how Jordan showed his personality through his performance. “I think it is really great for all of us and for America that you are bringing a different energy to the show. A different genre than most people are doing, you bring your own instrument, you are the best-dressed man on this season of the voice, you have been killing it in every way. It’s all working for me,” he said.
Then, Rachel Mac from Team Nick took the stage to belt out “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack, dedicating the song to her newborn nephew Ezra. “The sweetness of your voice is so pure and angelic, captivating and it is my favorite part of your voice. I love that intimate part of your voice, job well done. You look beautiful, congratulations, you are sixteen years old doing this and it is amazing,” Kelly praised her.
Singing “Stand Up” by Cynthia Erivo was Team Blake’s Cam Anthony. John loved his performance, saying that Cam was “so ready for this stage.” The award-winning singer also mentioned about Cam’s “God-given talent,” adding that Cam already possessed “the level of just professionalism, performance ability, all the things that you need to be a superstar artist.”
Kenzie then returned to the stage to sing “The Keeper of the Stars” by Tracy Byrd which he dedicated to his hometown. “You have been so fun to watch this entire season, to watch your journey, watch you grow as a vocalist. I didn’t even know that you had that upper register but you showcased it tonight with ease and brilliance,” Nick praised him.
As for Rachel Mac, she performed “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac. “It’s fun to watch and your energy and voice were strong,” John commented, Meanwhile, Nick added, “It was brilliant and a reminder of what concerts feel like.”
Jordan then sang “Stay” by Rihanna which was dedicated to his grandmothers, Joy and Betty. Nick commented, “I can’t wait to hear the album that you put out because you have proven that you can do it all.” Meanwhile, Blake said, “It was great! Again Jordan, you surprised us with an out-of-the-box song choice.”
