ITV’s The Masked Singer was a huge hit with viewers, and the spin off show follows the same format, except the contestants will be dancing rather than singing. The same detective judges from the singing contest will be putting their observational skills to the test, but professional dancer Oti Mabuse will also be joining the panel for The Masked Dancer. Some clues have hinted who the identity of Zip could be ahead of the first episode.
Some of the bizarre “characters” that will be taken on by the contestants include Zip, Carwash, Beagle, Squirrel and Scarecrow.
It’s now being speculated that Zip could be TV presenter Stephen Mulhern, after he admitted he “has the moves”.
The 44-year-old was speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her show earlier this month about the rumours he is underneath the Zip costume.
He said: “I don’t know whether you’ve heard this rumour that I am meant to be on the Masked Dancer?”
“Yes, as the Zip,” Lorraine replied. “We were talking about it earlier on.”
Stephen continued: “Well, the problem is now you have seen me doing those sort of dance moves… that’s who they think I am.
“Am I? That’s the big question. Well the truth of it is, at school I was called Mulhern the Mover, so…
“Snake hips Stevie, that’s what they called me! So is it me? Well, you’re going to find out soon.”
Judges Davina McCall, Oti Mabuse, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan will be watching the dancers and trying to figure out who is strutting their stuff on the dance floor.
Has Stephen made their job a little easier by hinting he could indeed be Zip?
Stephen is great at pranking people on TV, often having to do so on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and his show In For a Penny.
With experience in deceit, could he be the perfect person to pull off the disguise?

The Masked Singer first launched on ITV in early 2020, and soon built up keen fans during the weekly episodes.
Presenter Joel Dommett will also be hosting the spin off series, which is set to be as popular as its sister show.
The two winners of the singing contest so far includes singer Nicola Roberts as “Queen Bee” and more recently, Joss Stone as “Sausage”.
Fans are looking forward to the seeing the same people back for a slightly different show, with its Saturday night slot set to attract plenty of viewers.
Oti recently admitted she had initially misunderstood what her role would be on the show.
“I was under the impression that I was doing it as a contestant,” the 30-year-old admitted to The Metro.
Oti continued to explain she had been telling the ITV team about how she would “spice it up”, before they clarified her part.
It’s thought the newcomer will be able to use her dance knowledge to spot clues – will she be able to tell if Stephen is behind the mask?
The Masked Dancer starts at 7pm tomorrow on ITV.
