The Haunting of Bly Manor viewers stunned to discover Uncle Henry is E.T. child star Elliot

FANS of Netflix's creepy new thriller The Haunting of Bly Manor were in for an extra shock when they realised who Uncle Henry was.

The follow-up to The Haunting of Hill House has been a smash-hit on the streaming giant, but fans are now just starting to realise why they recognise Uncle Henry.

In the Haunting of Bly Manor actor Henry Thomas plays the absent uncle of his orphaned niece and nephew.

The series is set in 1980s England, and after an au pair’s tragic death, Henry brings in a young American nanny to care for the children.

As in all horror, not all is at seems as the manor is teeming with ghosts, mourning and heartbreak.

But many viewers were distracted Thomas' familiar face, until they realised he was the same actor that played Elliot in E.T.

Thomas' breakthrough role came in Steven Spielberg's 1982 classic film about an alien who is left behind on earth.

Elliot rescues E.T. and helps to get him home.

Bly Manor fans had their "minds blown" when they made the connection.

One Twitter user wrote: "Okay I’m behind but Henry Thomas on Hill House/Bly Manor is ELLIOTT ON ET!?! It JUST clicked as I’m halfway into Bly Manor."

Another added: "Way to feel old. Can’t believe Henry from the dreadful Haunting of Bly Manor is also Elliot from ET."

While a third wrote: "I was today years old when I found out that Uncle Henry from Bly Manor is the boy in E.T."

Fans realising Thomas also played Elliot in E.T. comes soon after they were stunned to learn the actor who plays creepy child Flora, played by Amelie Bea Smith, is actually the voice of Peppa Pig.

The nine-year-old stars alongside Victoria Pedretti, from You, in the scary show, but she’s better known for portraying the cartoon character.

Social media was awash with shock as parents suddenly realised where they recognised Flora’s voice from, saying they couldn’t ‘unhear’ Peppa.

While others joked about Peppa saying ‘perfectly splendid’, Flora’s catchphrase.
