The Handmaid’s Tale season 4: Fans fume release date bombshell ‘I can’t wait this long!’

It has been previously reported that season four of The Handmaid’s Tale will be one of the shortest seasons to date. However, it now seems it could also have the longest waiting period. Now, fans are more eager than ever to find out more about the fourth season of the dystopian tale.

Season one of The Handmaid’s Tale was the shortest season of the series, being just ten episodes long.

Now, despite there being a number of loose ends to tie up and a possibility of multiple trials going down, season four will follow suit.

According to a Toronto film website, the new season will also deliver fans just ten more episodes to catch up with June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss) and the state of Gilead.

The site also reported that filming is due to start in less than a couple of months, with cameras set to roll on the March 2.

However, despite the upcoming season being one of the shortest, it’s set to have one of the longest waiting periods between seasons.

According to TV Guide, executive producer Warren Littlefield has spoken out about the season four release date.

Speaking to the publication, Warren told a small group of reporters that season 4 would not drop in the spring or summer as it has in the past, given the later start date for production on this season.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, he said: “We’ll start with principal photography March 2, and we’ll be on in the fall.”

However, fans aren’t too happy about the wait and have taken to Twitter to air their grievances.

One fan tweeted: “Nah I can’t wait this long for The Handmaid’s Tale”

“How am I supposed to patiently wait for season 4 of The Handmaids Tale?” added another.

A third viewer posted: “Season 4 of the handmaids tale hurry”

Meanwhile, fans have been sharing theories about what’s next for June in her search for her daughter Hannah Bankole (Jordan Blake).

Taking to Reddit, user cheeseandbiscuitz said: “I’m rewatching season 3 and had a thought… what if when June gets her next chance to save Hannah, Hannah doesn’t want to leave Gilead?

“It’s been implied life with her current family isn’t that bad and she is probably too young to fully understand what her future could be or clearly remember her past life.

“What kind of awful twist would that be?”

Will Hannah want to stay with her current family?

In Margaret Atwood’s books Hannah doesn’t reunite with June until much later in life, will showrunners follow suit?

However, other fans don’t think June will ever get close enough to even try to rescue Hannah.

Another fan added: “I don’t think June will ever save Hannah. Her saving everyone else’s children is her honouring Hannah.”

The Handmaid’s Tale season three is now available to stream on Hulu.
