The Handmaid’s Tale season 3, episode 5 promo: What will happen next?

The Handmaid’s Tale season three has aired four episodes of the new series so far on Hulu. The streaming platform has now released a promo for what will happen in episode five ahead of its release on Wednesday, June 19. Here’s everything we know about what will happen next.

What will happen in The Handmaid’s Tale season 3, episode 5?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Handmaid’s Tale season 3

Episode five of The Handmaid’s Tale will be dropping on streaming service Hulu on Wednesday, June 19.

The show will be uploaded to the platform at midnight EST for eager viewers.

UK fans will have to wait about three-and-a-half weeks before they can see the episode, however, due to its delay in airing on Channel 4.

Episodes one to four have currently aired on the platform, with viewers seeing June Osbourne (played by Elisabeth Moss) return to Gilead.

So far she has began gathering her allies, including seemingly Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) and Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski).

Hulu has now released a 30-second trailer for the latest episode to show viewers what they can expect.

The trailer begins showing a meeting between June, Lawrence, Serena and Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes).

As the promo opens we hear Waterford say: “We’d like to arrange a visit with Nichole.”

Wife Serena quickly adds: “Just one visit to say goodbye.”

As viewers will know, Nichole is June’s daughter who she sent off with Emily (Alexis Bledel) to Canada at the end of series two.

Due to the nature of Gilead, the child is viewed as legally that of Serena and Commander Waterford, who are both grieving her loss.

However, Serena was complicit in letting June send Nichole away as she wanted her to have a better life outside of the restrictions of the dystopian state.

We see June given a phone to make the call to Canada.

In tears, she asks: “If I do this, what do I get?”

Serena replies to an emotional June: “What do you want?”

Clearly conflicted, June does make the call and we see her husband Luke (O. T. Fagbenle) pick up his phone in Canada.

This would mark the first time the pair have been able to communicate over the phone since they were separated.

Later in the clip, June asks Lawrence “My husband, do you think he’s in danger,” to which he replies “We’re all in danger.”

We see Serena and Commander Waterford as well as Luke and Nichole preparing for the meeting.

The clip ends on Luke saying: “Nichole is going to know exactly where she came from and how brave her mother was. That’s her story.”

The trailer does not make clear whether June and Luke will get to see each other in the episode or what will happen when Luke meets with Serena.

The scene is unlikely to be an amicable moment, however, as the last time Luke saw Commander Waterford, he confronted him with an photo of June.

In season two, episode nine he says: “You raped my wife.

“You’re going to remember my face because I’m going to remember yours and this is all going to be over one day.”

Viewers will just have to tune in to see what will happen next.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 continues on Wednesdays on Hulu on and on Channel 4 at 9pm
