'The Bold and the Beautiful' Fans Think Steffy's Downward Spiral Has Been Rushed
The Bold and the Beautiful is an award-winning soap opera that has been airing on CBS since 1987. It originally appeared as a sister show to The Young and the Restless.
The daytime drama has dealt with topics that are relevant to popular culture, always abreast of the sign of the times. Love affairs, scandals, adultery, corruption, and deceit are never off-limits.
Steffy Forrester, played by Jacqueline MacInnes, is the latest character to be dealing with a common problem that is plaguing America. As fans anxiously await the fate of their favorite “rich bitch”, they can’t help but wonder if her storyline is being rushed for no good reason.
Steffy’s decline into opioid addiction
MacInnes won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2019. She may be in line for another win this year, as she takes on an intense battle with opioid addiction.
The Bold and the Beautiful tackles the controversial mainstream problem that is currently affecting 2.1 million Americans. The daytime drama is doing its best to show how everyone is susceptible to this insidious addiction.
Forrester is a successful businesswoman, single mother, and a strong independent character. When she is involved in a motorcycle accident at the hands of Bill Spencer, her life is changed forever. She fights to survive from a hospital bed as she struggles with severe pain.
After suffering extensive injuries, Forrester is prescribed prescription painkillers from Dr. Finn, her presumed love interest. Once released from the hospital, her pain continues, and she asks Finn for more medication. He suggests over the counter Ibuprofen, which she tries but finds no relief.
She turns to Vinny Walker, who supplies her with illegal drugs to ease the pain, and the downward spiral begins.
The storyline that has dominated the newer episodes
While Steffy is wrapped up in her ongoing drug addiction, The Bold and the Beautiful storyline is focusing on the neverending drama between Brooke, Shauna, Ridge, and Quinn. It has dominated the newer episodes, not leaving much time for Steffy’s dilemma to unfold.
Brooke contemplates getting back together with Bill, while Ridge decides to reunite with Shauna. Brooke is hesitant because she doesn’t want Bill to become fixated on her. Quinn gets mixed up in the middle of the relationship and accuses Brooke of sleeping with all the Forrester men.
It seems a messy scene is in the making as Brooke seeks revenge on Quinn for breaking up her and Ridge. As Shauna and Ridge discuss a wedding re-do, Brooke may just be planning to steal back Ridge.
Fans think Steffy’s decline is being rushed
Meanwhile, fans want to see the storyline of Steffy’s decline slowed down a little. They think it can be paced better so that viewers can really dive deep into the horrid effects of drug addiction.
Fans think the ongoing storyline with Brooke and friends is forcing writers to move Steffy’s story along much quicker than it should be.
As Steffy becomes more reliant on the pills, she starts to reminisce about her ex-husband, Liam. Fans are concerned that writers are going to drag the love triangle of Liam, Hope, and Steffy back out.
They feel that this reversal of character is not a good move for the Forrester Creations business owner. She is always strong and independent, and they don’t want to see her fall back into old habits, or establish new ones for that matter.
CelebratingTheSoaps.com is quick to note that “anyone hoping this leads to a Steam reunion, B&B soap spoilers hint they’re going to be disappointed.” With Liam out of her life, Forrester may become more reliant on the pills leaving room for her descent into addiction leading her character’s future actions.
Only time will tell if writers decide to slow down this intriguing topic for MacInnes to explore.
