The Bill actor Ben Roberts dies following lead role in police series

The Bill actor Ben Roberts, who played one the lead roles of Chief Inspector Derek Conway in the hit police series, has sadly passed.

The star was 70-years-old.

Bill appeared on the uber-popular from 1987 to 2000.

A statement by Bill's agent LCM Limited said: 'Remembering the wonderful Ben Roberts who sadly passed away on Monday.

'Best known as Chief Inspector Derek Conway in The Bill & he had an extensive career in theatre, TV & film.

'Our thoughts are with his wife Helen & family at this time."

While The Bill was the show that turned Bill into a household name his big break cam on TV series A Woman's place.

He also had a small extra role in Doctor Who in 1984 before bagging his part in The Bill three years later.

Following his departure in 200 he went on to appear on multiple occasions in BBC series Doctors.

Most recently he appeared in Danish film Daniel in 2019.

Away from his career, Ben is survived by his wife Helen Lloyd who is an audiobook narrator.

The couple have a song Joe and a granddaughter, Elsie.
