Thank The TV Gods! A Female-Led 'Grimm' Spinoff Is In The Works At NBC
Not all good things have to come to an end.
NBC is developing a Grimm spinoff with a female lead, even though the dust has barely settled on the floors of the Spice Shop. The untitled new project will be written and executive produced by Melissa Glenn (Marvel’s Iron Fist, The CW’s Beauty and the Beast) and Grimm co-creators David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf have signed on as consulting producers as well.
Just like Grimm, the spinoff will feature fairy tale and supernatural storylines that will include new characters as well as some familiar faces from the original series.
The official logline for the possible NBC series reads: “Building off the mythology of the original series, the new show will feature returning fan favorites while also introducing new characters, new dangers and epic new mysteries.”
In the original series, Trubel was a female Grimm but it doesn’t appear that the spinoff will follow her storyline. Instead, the new, female-led series will likely focus on a different character.
Grimm ran for six seasons on NBC from 2011-2017. It focused on a detective named Nick Burkhardt who discovered that he came from a long lineage of “Grimms” — a mythological slayer of supernatural creatures known as Wesen. During his crazy adventures, Nick befriended a variety of monsters and later fathered a child with one. Nick also partnered up with the good Wesen to fend off the evil Wesen in order to maintain the balance between humanity and supernatural entities (most of which were derived from the Brothers Grimm tales).
The show’s series finale revealed a flash-forward sequence in which Nick’s son, Kelly, grew up to be a Grimm who battled nefarious forces alongside his father, mother Adalind, and half-sister Diana. Monroe and Rosalee’s triplets were also around to lend a helping hand during the ass kicking. It’s unclear whether the spinoff will include these characters, although it would be interesting to see how they’ve fared through the years.
