Strictly’s Katie McGlynn spills show goss as group spray tans replace nights out

Strictly Come Dancing star Katie McGlynn shared that due to Covid restrictions the cast of this year's show couldn't head out for a drink, so instead used group tanning sessions as a social gathering.

The former Coronation Street actress chatted to the Daily Star at the Pride of Britain awards on Saturday where she shared some behind the scenes secrets.

Katie was given the boot from the show on the second week, resulting in her and her partner Gorka Marquez leaving the show.

When asked if she still watches the programme upon leaving, she said: "I love it, I still watch it, we're still friends and I'm going back in December actually."

When nudged about any backstage info, she added: "Everybody is genuinely lovely, I know that's not a secret but it's true what you see.

"Oh, and the boys get spray tans, darker tans than the girls, they are very particular.

"We have group spray tan sessions, because of Covid that would be our going to the pub because we can't do that so we all go get spray tans."

Recently fans had speculated over tensions between the ex-Corrie star and her professional partner during their Strictly journey.

Speaking to Rylan Clark-Neal on the popular spin-off show It Takes Two, Katie opened up about the friendship the pair had formed and insisted they would remain friends despite their Strictly journey coming to an end.

The pair admitted they had experienced difficulties during training due to Katie's commitment to filming for Hollyoaks.

Katie said: “It was so much fun and to end the movie week was just the final gem for me. We left on a high with movie week.

“The whole reason I entered was to learn to dance because I’m not a dancer. I have no regrets."

Fans had pointed out online, however, that the pair had no chemistry and they were dubious when Katie said the pair had become friends.

When Katie reassured Rylan that she would remain friends with Gorka post-Strictly, the pro dancer simply smiled at her in a manner that Rylan immediately picked up on as awkward.

The host of It Takes Two said: “That didn’t look convincing.”

Gorka was quick to respond: “Yes of course.”

One Strictly fan tweeted: "There was no chemistry between Katie and Gorka and I really don’t know why she signed up for the show if her work schedule was full.

"Everyone knows the commitment needed for the show. She took a space that someone else could have had.”
