It was a killer result on Strictly Come Dancing as another celebrity was eliminated from the competition over the weekend. Five celebrity couples remain and will battle it out in the quarter-finals. John Whaite and Johannes Radebe turned up the energy with their fiery tango which scored the pair an almost perfect 39. BBC viewers were surprised when the choreographers behind the top-scoring dance were unveiled and it wasn’t whom viewers may have originally thought.

After the public voted to save the pair on Sunday night, host Claudia Winkleman spoke to the couple about their impressive scores.

She said: “Hold on… top of the leaderboard.”

The TV presenter then pointed out the dance was “the highest Argentine tango of the series”.

“John, can you get over Saturday night?” She asked.

In 2012, John Whaite won the third series of The Great British Bake Off when the series had judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry as well as being aired on BBC Two.

The 32-year-old chef told Claudia how he felt after their performance, he said: “Saturday night was incredible.”

Suddenly, the star baker expressed his gratitude towards an unknown couple.

“We’ve got to say, while we remember, a huge thank you to Leandro and Maria,” he added.

John elaborated on who the couple was after he told viewers they were “Argentine dancers who taught us that dance.

“Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to do anything.”

“They were just amazing,”

“So thank you to those guys,” he continued, giving fans a rare insight into the secret behind the incredible performance.

Claudia pressed the 32-year-old baker from Chorley to say what he did with his costume after every dance.

The Strictly host opened up the conversation by stating: “You do something really beautiful at the end of every Saturday night.”

She prompted the author by stating: “You say something to your costume.”

John replied: “I do. I hang the costume up or put it on the couch and I say, ‘Thank you Strictly, all this has been fun and beautiful’.”

He added that this method helped him stay grounded as he moved on to the next week in the competition.

Next week, the dynamic duo will be dancing the salsa to We Are Family by Sister Sledge.

Tilly Ramsay and partner Nikita Kuzmin were the latest couple to be booted off Strictly Come Dancing.

It was the pair’s third dance-off this series, this time losing against Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 6.40pm.
