Spoilers: Drugged up George ruins a funeral in Coronation Street

A piece of overcooked pork proves to be a problem for George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) in upcoming Coronation Street episodes, as he breaks a tooth while eating it.

Sean (Antony Cotton) has produced the overdone roast to impress Dylan (Liam McCheyne), but when Dylan sensibly opts to go for pizza with his mates, Sean serves up the meat to George, Eileen (Sue Cleaver) and Todd (Gareth Pierce). One bite is all it takes for George to do himself some serious dental damage.

In the world of funeral arranging as in showbiz, the show must go on – and George doesn’t have the time to get to the dentist because he has a man called Mr Pugh to bury.

He arrives on the day of the funeral, after trying to keep the pain of his toothache at bay with Eileen’s strong painkillers. Todd soon realises that George is high as a kite on the medication and pushes him into one of the funeral cars to sleep it off rather than ruining the funeral for Mr Pugh’s family.

Mrs Pugh is not impressed, and while Todd attempts to cover for George’s absence a new face arrives on the scene. Glenda (Jodie Prenger) is George’s sister, and she immediately clocks what’s happening and takes charge.

The funeral ends up going very well thanks to Glenda’s intervention, while George continues to snooze in the back of the car, completely oblivious.
