Bridgerton has given fans all the romance we needed at the beginning of 2021 and provided us with much-needed entertainment in the third lockdown.
So, when we binged all eight episodes within a matter of days, it left many wanting to see more of the Netflix show, and in particular heartthrob Simon Basset played by Regé-Jean Page.
With this in mind, the first major casting for the second series will no doubt excite fans as it means the wheels are very much in motion for another instalment.
Sex Education and Broadchurch star Simone Ashley, 25, is set to play Kate Sharma, who will be the female lead and love interest of Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey.

Simone’s character Kate will be a smart, headstrong woman who has newly arrived in London.
Bridgerton fans will already know the series is based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels and the second instalment will be no different as it will follow the plot of the author’s second book, The Viscount Who Loved Me.
The second season will explore the pursuit of a suitable marriage for eldest Bridgeton sibling Anthony after his split from opera singer Siena in season one.
Anthony’s break-up saw him tell Daphne and Simon of his plans of “finding and promptly declaring my intentions to my new viscountess”.
Filming for the new series will start this spring in London.
The Netflix show’s creator and show runner Chris Van Dusen previously said of the second season: “We have a bunch of new characters we are going to be introducing.
“Anthony is going to have a love interest next season, and I think it’s going to be as sweeping and moving and as beautiful as viewers of the first season have come to expect from the show.”
Meanwhile, Anthony actor Jonathan Bailey teased his role on the second series as he told Vogue: “The robust universe that's been set up by Shonda [Rhimes] and Chris [Van Dusen] will just expand, and keep pushing boundaries in a way that's quietly subversive.

“There's just going to be more of what everyone loves, I think. There's loads of little Easter eggs for all of the characters. I'll say this: watch out for the bees.”
