Bosch recently wrapped its seventh and final season on Amazon Prime Video but this isn’t the end for the title character (played by Titus Welliver). A spin-off for the show, created by IMDb, has been announced, bringing the iconic character back. Lance Reddick played a major role in the original series as Irvin Irving, and the star revealed to Express.co.uk how likely it would be for him to make a return as well, along with discussing his new docuseries Book of Secrets on Sky History.

When Amazon Prime announced season seven as the last for Bosch, fans were uncertain about the future of the character.

The character was originally created by Michael Connelly for his ongoing crime thriller novel series which began with 1992’s Black Echo.

As a result, there was still plenty of story to explore when season seven came to a close, frustrating viewers they wouldn’t get to see more of the books brought to the screen.

Good news came when IMDb announced a spin-off of the series, which is as of yet untitled.

Little is known about the series, other than the fact Bosch is now working solo following the events of the original series.

It isn’t entirely clear how this will connect or who else may appear in the series, but fans are holding out hope one other character will come back.

This character is Irvin Irving (Lance Reddick), the Chief with the Los Angeles Police Department.

With Bosch now working independently, the chances he will be encountering characters from the police department is slim, but viewers are still holding out hope.

Express.co.uk sat down with Reddick to discuss Bosch and the likelihood the star will make an appearance in the spin-off.

“I don’t know how much time I’ll have,” Reddick explained. “I’m not sure how much reason [Bosch] will have to interface with the chief of police.

“Given the nature of the spin-off, that he is now going to be a private investigator, I‘m not sure.”

Reddick also explained how he almost didn’t appear in the original series at all, not wanting to play a role he was already familiar with.

Reddick continued: “It’s a job that I almost didn’t do, I almost turned it down.

“I didn’t want to play another commanding officer in law enforcement, but it ended up being one of the highlights of my career.

“In terms of how I feel about the spin-off, I’m a fan of the show, so I just can’t wait to see it.”

Bosch has an enduring legacy, with the character being known for his relentless determinism and ruthless pursuit of justice.

Nothing has been confirmed by IMDb, but the likelihood of Reddick’s casting will be determined by the story and the star’s availability.

For now, Reddick can be seen in Book of Secrets, the Sky History series which is exploring mysteries around governments, UFOs and supernatural events.

This is part of the ongoing Summer of Secrets on the channel, which is airing throughout August.

“I didn’t know how deep a lot of this went,” Reddick added, “I didn’t realise [the US government] had a date set on when those files that had been classified would be made available to the public.

“I think sometimes we as Americans have a tendency to think of ourselves as so exceptional that we don’t always see the truth.”

The untitled IMDb Bosch spin-off currently doesn’t have a release date but is expected to arrive in 2022.

Book of Secrets with Lance Reddick premieres on Sky HISTORY on Tuesday 24th August at 9pm.

Sky HISTORY is available on Sky 123, NOW, Virgin 270 and TalkTalk 327. All episodes will be available on catch up services.
