Kourtney Kardashian’s daughter Penelope in tears over Travis Barker proposal
Kourtney Kardashian's daughter Penelope was in floods of tears in a recent episode of The Kardashians after finding out Travis Barker proposed to her mum.
During Thursday’s episode of the Hulu reality series, the Blink-192 performer got down on one knee during a romantic display on Malibu Beach.
The Kardashian clan, including sisters Kim, Kylie, Kendall and Khloe, secretly watched the romantic spectacle, before celebrating with the happy couple at a nearby beach house
However, noticeably missing was Kourtney’s three children Mason , 12, Penelope, nine, and Reign, seven – whom she shares with ex Scott Disick.
In the latest episode it was revealed to be Kris Jenner’s decision to not invite the children, thinking it best so Scott didn’t have to get involved.
“Listen, for us to have to lie to Scott and get them here under false pretences would’ve been really hard for all of us,” the matriarch explained.
She added: “So you know what? This is the right thing to do … that’s the way I feel about it.”
While Kourtney felt differently about the decision, the reality star tried to stay positive, admitting during an on-camera confessional: “I do wish that my kids were here. I think it would’ve made them feel more included in the decision kind of, like part of the surprise.
“I know that my mum made that decision, and it probably wasn’t her best."
The 42-year-old then shared the news with Penelope over Facetime, who could be heard crying on the phone before abruptly hanging up.
Kourtney told her daughter: “Do you want to know what my surprise was? We got engaged! Is that upsetting?”
“Penelope took it hard,” Kourtney said, adding in a confessional: “I think it’s a big change for her and even though she loves Travis, I think she doesn’t know what that means. Is that taking me away? I think she doesn’t know what it means.”
She soon contacted her youngest son Reign, who simply said the news was “not exciting”.
It was unclear how Mason reacted, as the star was unable to contact him during the episode.
Khloe attempted to understand the situation and compared it to how she and her sisters felt when Kris got engaged to their stepfather Caitlyn Jenner.
She said: “They think they’re losing their dad, I don’t think they think they’re losing their mum. They think their dad is gone and Travis is replacing him. When you’re a kid, you think you have to pick one, so P’s reaction is understandably okay. But there’s nothing wrong with Travis."
Kourtney agreed: "Once my dad was accepting of Caitlyn, it felt like we could take a deep breath and be friendly with [Caitlyn] and get along with him and not feel bad."
During a confessional, the mother-of three explained that Scott needs to be accepting of the relationship, she explained: “I think that it’s really important for Scott to be accepting of our relationship so that the kids can feel good.”
