Jack Whitehall admits he 'messed up' his chance at marrying Gemma Chan

Jack Whitehall admits he ‘messed up’ his chances of marrying Gemma Chan.

The comedian broke up with the Crazy Rich Asians actress in 2017 after six years of dating.

And in series four of his Netflix series Travels With My Father, the 32-year-old says that he ‘f***ed up’ his chances of getting married.

Speaking to his mother Hilary, he says: ‘I f***ed up my chance of that. I did. I could have got married but I messed it up.

He also apologises to his mother for being the only single member of their immediate family and having to attend his sister Molly’s wedding alone.

The Fresh Meat star says: ‘I’m sorry I’ll be attending the wedding alone and I’m sorry you have two children who have model relationships and one who is going to be there on his own maybe trying to sh*g a bridesmaid.’

The series was filmed before Jack began dating model Roxy Horner earlier this year.

Jack and Gemma, 37, were said to have split in 2017 due to their hectic work schedules, and the comic later joked about the break-up the following year in one of his shows.

He said: ‘I’ve had a lot of changes in my life recently. I’m single now. I was in a relationship, it broke down, it was not gonna work, it was a long distance relationship, not geographically, just in terms of our expectations.

‘She wanted kids now whereas I wanted to escape. I’m not good with kids.’

Jack also suggested that the break-up had been amicable, saying: ‘You want to hate the person, that is a healthy way to end a relationship. The one advantage at having tragedy in your life is you get material out of it.

‘And she couldn’t even do that. No one has ever written an album about a wonderful break up where everyone behaved impeccably.

‘I wanted her trampling my heart into the floor, she took my mum for tea to help my mum transition through the split. F*** you with your generosity.’

Following the break-up, Jack was linked to a string of famous women, including Kate Beckinsale, Paris Hilton and Kirsty Gallacher, and went public with Roxy, 29, earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Gemma is in a relationship with Mamma Mia! star Dominic Cooper, with the pair confirming their romance in September 2018.
