ITV issue apology after I’m A Celebrity account likes post slamming Nella Rose
ITV addressed their behaviour on social media after it was revealed they had 'liked’ a hateful comment about I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Nella Rose.
The statement from the network read: “Yesterday we accidentally liked a comment on Instagram while scrolling down through viewer comments.
“The post in question contained unacceptable language about one of our campmates and we apologise for the mistake made and any offence caused.
“We seek to champion all our campmates and would always urge our audience to be kind when commenting on social media.”
The Twitter thread (now known as X) began when a number of users noticed that the official I’m A Celebrity account, which has 1.6million followers on Instagram and 1.3m on Twitter, had ‘liked’ a mean comment about the YouTube star made by a user underneath a post celebrating Sam Thompson’s revelations about his ADHD.
The tweet claimed Nella was 'after publicity' but the thread has now been deleted.
Nella has found herself in the middle of controversy this series after she clashed with First Dates' Fred Siriex. Nella told Fred she felt "offended" after he said he was old enough to be her dad. This upset Nella due to her father's passing in 2020.
She labelled him a "weirdo" for "bringing up her dead dad" and declared: "I don't want to eat your food, I don't want to talk to you. We can just live, you live on that side, I live on this side."
The 26 year old also butt heads with politician Nigel Farage. As the campmates sat around discussing different pronunciations of 'water', Nigel made a remark that copying the accent from someone of another race could be seen as "cultural appropriation."
He then complained that he "doesn't know the rules these days." Joining the discussion, Nella argued that it depends on the intent behind actions, to which Nigel asked if it would be offensive to dress as a Mexican for a party.
Nella was quick to point out that it would be because a Mexican costume would include traditional clothing which holds meaning for people from that culture.
Later on, Nella said: “I was just so disappointed in him (Farage) because we were getting along so well and vibing, and I was honestly sad and disappointed about that.”
