Is the 'iCarly' Reboot Getting Renewed for a Third Season?
Reboots can sometimes be seen as the unnecessary exhumation of a perfectly good show, a resurrection that brings back a half-alive zombie of what a show once was. But that is most definitely not what the iCarly reboot is.
IDK about you, but I was pleasantly surprised about how the new show has managed to maintain the same sense of humor, and continuity — despite the fact that one of its biggest characters, Sam (Jennette McCurdy) is no longer around. The Sam-shaped hole has been more than filled by the new additions to the main ensemble: Harper (Laci Mosley) and Millicent (Jaidyn Triplett). And the show has also grown along with its fanbase, with Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) openly talking about her sexuality, facing problems that come with adult-ing and the age of the Internet, and getting to swear. F*ck yeah!
Season 2 of the reboot is already proving to be a great follow-up to the first, especially since season 1 ended on a cliffhanger. And while not all the episodes of the second installment have been released, I already know I’m going to want more.
Here’s everything we know so far about season 3 of the iCarly reboot.
Is the iCarly reboot getting another season?
Sadly, we don’t know just yet. Paramount+ hasn’t made any official announcements regarding the series’ possible renewal. It’s too soon to tell, but we might find out before season 2 is even over. The media company was so confident in the show that before all the episodes of season 1 aired, they already greenlit season 2.
Who’s going to be in the cast if we get a season 3?
Unless the reboot turns into a spinoff, expect to see Miranda Cosgrove return to reprise her titular role as Carly. It’s also fair to say that the main ensemble with Freddie (Nathan Kress), Spencer (Jerry Trainor), Harper (Mosley), and Millicent (Triplett) would probably be back as well.
Season 2 had a cameo from Cosgrove’s Drake & Josh co-star and TV big brother Josh Peck. Some of the queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race also popped by. So maybe we might see more exciting cameos? Maybe Gibby (Noah Munck)?? Sam (McCurdy)??? We can only dream.
What would it be about?
Like a lot of sitcoms, iCarly is one of those series that doesn’t need to be watched exactly in order. Every episode is a new adventure and is its own story. You never really need to know everything that’s happened in the series so far, though the background knowledge certainly helps.
Season 3 would probably just have Carly deal with new shenanigans as she continues to develop new content for iCarly and navigates her relationships.
When does season 3 come out?
Obviously, with the third season still unconfirmed, there are no set dates yet. But if we follow the schedule the reboot’s been on so far, the earliest season 3 would premiere is sometime in 2023.
