Inside the life of Sam Fox from posing topless to singing with Freddie Mercury
Sam Fox was a 16-year-old schoolgirl when she was named runner-up in the Miss Sunday People competition which changed her life forever.
She soon rose to fame by being a topless Page 3 model in The Sun in the 1980s and was regarded as one of the biggest sex symbols of the decade.
Sam came a long way from being a teenager who helped out with the family’s fruit and vegetable stall in Islington, north London, in the space of a few years.
She became a household name when she posed nude for Playboy magazine and had her 34D assets insured for £1million.
In recent years, she admitted she thought her newfound fame as the “girl next door” glamour model would only last a few years at most.

Sam told The Mirror: “I had bee stings compared to other girls, so when my boobs came when I was 14 or 15 I hated them! I was so embarrassed because they literally did come overnight so it was a bit of a shock.”
She has always been open about being on the front of Page 3 as a teenager, telling Good Morning Britain viewers in 2020: “I was 16, if people say that’s wrong, well there’s a lot of other things we could do at 16 that are legal now.”
In tandem with her modelling career, Sam decided to turn to singing in 1986 when she released her first studio album named Touch Me.
She went on to sell 30 million records worldwide from her 10 albums thanks to sales of hit songs such as Naughty Girls and I Only Want To Be With You.
“When I started my pop career there were people who didn’t want me to succeed and saying that it wasn’t me singing on my own record, but I put the work in and got on tour to prove I could sing,” she told The Sun.
“Freddie Mercury pulled me up on stage to perform Tutti Frutti with him at a Queen afterparty in 1986 – it was at a time when I really needed something like that.”
Sam came out as gay back in 2003 and has said in interviews her mother was there for her when she opened up about her sexuality.
She took part in Celebrity Wife Swap in 2008 with her then-partner Myra Stratton.
Mrya sadly died aged 60 in 2015 before Sam embarked on a relationship with her tour manager Linda Birgitte Olson who she tied the knot with on Valentine’s Day in 2020.
Sam has made several appearances in film and television, including a guest appearance on Baywatch and a role in The Kenny Everett Television Show.
In 2009 she was on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! on ITV and Celebrity Come Dine with Me the following year. Sam also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother 18 and finished in seventh place.
Sam is now trying her hand in the kitchen on this series of Celebrity MasterChef, with her episode airing tonight (Wednesday, August 8).
Ahead of appearing on Celebrity MasterChef, Sam told the BBC: “Number one, it’s my favourite cooking programme and I’ve watched it for many, many years.
“I really want to learn more culinary skills and become a better cook. I’ve only properly cooked for my partner and now I’ve got my own family I’m always thinking of trying out new things and teaching my son to cook.
“He’s at university so we’re always trying out different things. I want to learn more dishes, more flavours and what a way to learn! I’m in awe of these two guys – John and Gregg.”
Sam revealed her mother has always been an inspiration ever since she was a young girl and said her family “loves” her cooking.
Celebrity MasterChef continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
