Il Divo's Carlos Marin dead at 53 – Star's cause of death revealed as covid days after he was placed in artificial coma

Il DIVO star Carlos Marín has died aged 53 in a Manchester hospital.

The Spanish singer fell ill with Covid-19 on December 7 and was placed in a coma earlier this week.

But he was sadly unable to fight off the killer virus and died over the weekend.

Sharing news of his tragic passing, Il Divo said: "It is with heavy hearts that we are letting you know that our friend and partner, Carlos Marin, has passed away.

"He will be missed by his friends, family and fans. There will never be another voice or spirit like Carlos.

    A show due in Lisbon

    The foursome had been due to a show in Lisbon and another in La Coruña Spain, which has been postponed until July 15, 2022.

    Just days later, they announced a delay to all performances until 2022 down to band "illness" but gave no further details.

    In a statement, they said: "Unfortunately, due to illness, the remaining dates for Il Divo’s December 2021 UK tour have been postponed until December 2022. 

    "Il Divo are deeply sorry to their fans, but look forward to returning to the road in the new year and seeing you all in the run up to next Christmas."

    One person reacted to the sad news on Twitter: "What devastating news! Carlos was such a huge character, his voice magnificent and so key to many of Il Divo's amazing songs. My sincere condolences to you all. May he rest in peace"

    Another fan penned: "Wow can't believe it. Such terrible news. My thoughts and prayers are with all his friends and family"

    Il Divo was put together by Simon Cowell in December 2003. The music mogul put on an international search for singers that lasted almost three years before final member David Miller was signed to the group.

    SIMON COWELL 'DEVASTATED'

    Music mogul Simon Cowell has broken his silence over the death of Il Divo star, Carlos Marín.

    Simon formed Il Divo in 2003 and has known Carlos since then as the singer was one of the original members.

    Taking to Instagram, Simon wrote: "I am finding this so difficult to put into words how I feel right now.

    "I am devastated Carlos Marlín has passed away. He loved life. He loved performing and always had so much appreciation towards the fans who supported the group from day 1.

    Carlos was spotted looking happy and healthy in a social media video just days before he was put in an "induced coma".

    The singer could be seen chatting to his fans as he sunbathed poolside in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, ahead of the final leg of Il Divo's tour.

    Spanish star Carlos, 53, chatted away in the selfie video as he promoted the upcoming shows across the UK, in Southend, Bournemouth and Brighton.
