Hollyoaks fans may recognise Luke’s aunt Lydia as Casualty icon joins soap
Casualty actress Cathy Shipton has joined the cast of Channel 4's Hollyoaks and will play Luke Morgan’s grieving aunt Lydia.
The star who is best known to soap fans for playing Lisa "Duffy" Duffin in BBC's long running medical drama, is set to make an explosive entrance as Luke and Zara's aunt.
Cathy played the role of Duffy in Casualty for over 30 years but her character was sadly killed off under tragic circumstances when her dementia finally took hold of her last year.
Now that the actress has decided to switch soaps, she will be arriving in the village of Chester to provide her nephew and niece with some devastating news.

Cathy's character Lydia will inform Luke and Zara that her husband has passed away with FTD.
But avid Hollyoaks' viewers will know Luke was previously diagnosed with FTD Pick’s disease, which is a form of rapid onset dementia.
Luke's uncle's death will send shockwaves in the family household and will certainly cause him to worry about his current health situation.
Cindy, who is Luke’s wife, has also been growing increasingly concerned over her husband's health and is convinced that his condition may be getting worse.

She also believes that Luke may not be able to accept the fact that he may be gradually deteriorating
Lydia's arrival means she will be armed with advice on how Cindy can cope with living with and loving someone who is suffering with the condition.
Talking to Digital Spy previously, actress Cathy expressed the reason why she decided to leave Casualty and how they planned Duffy's exit.
The star explained: "There was a movement between the show to take on long lead stories. Stories that last longer than one episode or a month.
"These stories were going to play out over a long period of time, like Iain’s depression story. They approached me and asked what I thought. I hadn’t said this to them but I already knew when I went back four years ago that I wouldn’t want to stay forever."
She added: "That married with this and I knew I’d want to see the story through. They planned it out over the last two years so, in a way, it was a mutual thing."
