Holly Willoughby's anguish as she can't meet niece while in lockdown

Holly Willoughby has opened up about the ‘pain’ of not being able to see her newborn niece who she hasn’t met at all during lockdown.

During a phone-in segment with agony aunt Vanessa Feltz on This Morning, one viewer, Rachel, phoned in to speak about how her parents are unable to see their grandson.

‘I feel your pain, I’ve got my little niece who I have not met at all,’ Holly began.

‘I keep looking at her in photos and she’s getting bigger and I’m thinking I am never going to get that time back and you miss them so much.’

Vanessa added: ‘I feel exactly the same, my youngest grandson was a year old during lockdown and I wasn’t there for his first birthday.

‘He reaches to me through the phone when we Facetime and he doesn’t understand.’

Currently, lockdown is set to continue until at least 7 May, with people urged to go outside only for essential shopping, exercise, medical need or to go to work where necessary if they cannot work remotely.

While these restrictions may or may not be eased in the coming weeks, other methods of controlling the spread of Covid-19 – such as social distancing – could be with us for a lot longer in a bid to prevent a second wave of cases.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
