Death in Paradise will be airing its highly-anticipated Christmas Special tomorrow (Boxing Day) on BBC One at 9pm with a festive dose of murder. The extra-long episode, which marks the second-ever Death in Paradise Christmas special, runs to 90 minutes with the team looking into the death of a podcaster. The Yuletide edition of Death in Paradise stars Coronation Street’s Les Dennis and Derry Girls actress Siobhan McSweeney.

When will Death in Paradise season 12 be released?

Once the Christmas special has aired, fans will be treated to a brand-new series of Death in Paradise in the new year.

Death in Paradise season 12 will be coming to screens on January 6, 2023 on BBC One.

Apart from the first season, Death in Paradise has always aired in early January, taking viewers through the dark months of the new year.

There will be eight episodes in the new series, which will be airing weekly with instalments available on BBC iPlayer following broadcast.

Who is in the cast of Death in Paradise season 12?

The main cast will be returning including Ralf Little as lead detective Neville Parker, who will be cracking cases with his team.

Don Warrington reprises his role as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, who will have some personal issues to deal with in the new series.

Also back in the frame will be Élizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey, Tahj Miles as Officer Marlon Pryce, Shantol Jackson as D.S Naomi Thomas and Ginny Holder as Darlene Curtis.

The show is going to be featuring a stellar guest cast again including Chelsea Edge, who is best known for I Hate Suzie, Suspicion and The Missing.

Comedian and actor Robert Webb of Peep Show fame will feature in one instalment.

Black Sails star Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Jo Martin from Doctor Who, Sanditon and Game of Thrones star Kevin Eldon, Happy Valley and Crashing’s Amit Shah and Jo Hartley from After Life star will be turning up in Saint Marie.

Further guest cast members include Christopher Villiers from Top Secret!, Barney Walsh from The Larkins, Coronation Street’s John Michie, The Split star Fiona Button, Okorie Chukwu from Kate & Koji, Gamba Cole of The Outlaws and Cara Theobald from Downton Abbey.

The BBC is expected to be announcing further guest stars closer to the start of the new series.

What will happen in Death in Paradise season 12?

The Saint Marie crime-solving squad will be on the case to as they are confronted with even more baffling and brainteasing murders.

As viewers may remember, the last series saw Selwyn discovering he had a daughter with the new episodes see him coming to terms with this bombshell news.

The show will start with the mysterious death of a celebrity astronomer as well as Darlene making a career change of sorts.

Also, there will be a group known as Preppers getting ready for the apocalypse on a Saint Marie hillside but the end is nigh for one of them.

Fans will be witnessing an impossible killing on a boat with the team visiting a beach under threat.

Finally, an apparently straightforward domestic murder becomes Neville’s greatest challenge to date.

Is there a trailer for Death in Paradise season 12?

Sadly, there’s no trailer yet but one is expected to drop soon and Express.co.uk will update this article when it does.

A trailer is likely to arrive after the Christmas special with the show starting in a couple of weeks.
