Since week one, the wildlife cameraman has been wowing the judging panel and viewers at home with his constant improvement. However, it looks as though the 32-year-old has been focused more on showcasing his professional partner Jowita Przystal rather than himself.

With the Strictly Come Dancing finals right around the corner, the competition is amping up as each celebrity tries their best to remain in the running to be crowned this year’s champion.

One of the long-running favourites of the show has been Hamza, who received an incredible score of 34 for his first routine.

Since then, the cameraman has remained near the top of the leaderboard with his highest mark being a near-perfect 39 in week four.

However, Dr Jill Rose Jacobs, who completed her PhD in Music focusing on Dance and Sports Science, revealed the Strictly favourite needs to step it up if he wants to get to remain in the competition.

Speaking to Heart Bingo, she said: “At this point in the competition, Hamza remains a contender although his past two performances have not been his best.

“Hamza has come to rely on his stability and strength. In some ways, Hamza has become comfortable spotlighting his professional partner instead of his dance ability.

“It is now imperative for Hamza to stop hiding.”

Last Saturday fans watched as Hamza and Jowita performed an Argentine Tango to Libertango which earned them a score of 37.

Blown away by their performance, head judge Shirley Ballas called them “amazing” and had nothing but praise for the dancing duo.

Speaking to Hamza, she said: “I just wish I could dance with you, you make this lady [Jowita] shine and that is what dancing for me is about, well done.”

Although their routine impressed Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke, it wasn’t quite enough to put him at the top of the leaderboard.

Taking the top spot was soap star Will Mellor and his partner Nancy Xu who danced the Charleston to Hush.

Both Hamza and Will survived eliminations last weekend as they earned a place in the upcoming quarter-finals.

However, it was time to say goodbye to another celebrity as singer Fleur East and comedian Ellie Taylor found themselves in the bottom two.

Despite Fleur receiving the first 40 of the series in the Blackpool special, last Sunday was her third time in the dance-off after receiving the lowest amount of votes from the public.

It was then time for the four judges on the panel to re-watch her Rumba and Ellie’s Jive as it was their decision on who they wanted to remain in the competition.

Fleur survived another dance-off as it was Ellie who was the latest star to leave the show, narrowly missing out on the quarter-final.

Speaking to presenter Tess Daly when it was revealed she’d be leaving, Ellie said: “It’s been everything and more!

“I never in a million years expected to be in for this long and to experience it so fully.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Friday on BBC One from 8pm.
