Great British Bake Off: Why are Rebs and Abdul missing tonight?

Pre-heat your ovens and grab your rolling pins – the Great British Bake Off is back.

The series kicked off this month with 12 bakers grabbing the aprons to tackle clever culinary creations in the hopes of taking home the top prize.

Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are on hand to critique the competitors – while hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas get all the gossip from the white tent.

A range of wannabe star bakers are taking part this year – and we’ve already said goodbye to two contestants as the competition hots up.

And tonight, two more will be missing from the tent – here’s why.

Why aren’t Rebs and Abdul on The Great British Bake Off tonight?

Tonight’s episode will only see 8 bakers compete as Rebs Lightbody and Abdul Rehman Sharif will be absent after being forced to take a temporary break.

According to the show, the break is down to sickness.

In the opening moments of tonight’s episode, after the competitors enter the tent, presenter Matt Lucas explains Rebs and Abdul’s whereabouts.

‘Both Rebs and Abdul are a bit under the weather this week, but with your permission, we thought we’d send them both straight through to the final,’ he says, as the other bakers laugh.

Matt’s co-host Noel Fielding then chimes in to add: ‘Only joking, they’re going to miss a week and hopefully they’ll be back next week.’

The third episode will treat us to bread week, with the bakers putting their stamp on a classic pizza in the Signature and getting in a twist with a classic pastry in the Technical.

Finally, the bakers tackle a showstopping Smörgåstårta, a decorative Danish sandwich cake.

The Great British Bake Off 2022 continues tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
