Gogglebox legends Giles and Mary reveal life changing move after eight years on the show | The Sun

GOGGLEBOX legends Giles Wood and Mary Killen have teased a major move could be on the cards after eight years on the popular Channel 4 reality show.

The quirky couple, who have endeared themselves to the nation with their forthright views and hilarious quips, could soon be upping sticks and moving from their picturesque countryside cottage in Wilts.

Writing in their book, Country Life: A Story of Peaks and Troughs, which is released today, Giles says: "Were I a shrub, I would say I have only tentatively put down roots here in Wiltshire.

"They are not yet thick or stubborn enough to prevent me from uprooting myself for the final chapter of my life. After 30 years, I am now ready to transplant myself again."

Mary continues: "As a woman who can’t drive, I have been exiled these past three decades to a village without a bus service. It means that, over the years, I’ve missed at least 600 London parties, gallery openings and book launches, to say nothing of memorial services and lectures and art exhibitions."

Rather than spend their later years away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Mary suggests they intend to embrace a faster pace.

She says: 'I’m certain that a London dwelling would be the best choice for the final decade of life. It’s too much of a nuisance to visit someone who lives in the country, no matter how much you love them. Our friends and family are always in London and would be 20 times more likely to come and see us there."

Last year, the couple revealed Giles was able to retire at the age of 21.

While watching a documentary about the Covid-19 pandemic, he said to his wife: "Just as I'm starting to enjoy my retirement."

But Mary shot back: "What retirement? You haven't worked first. You retired at 21, so now you can start working, do it in reverse."

Away from his and Mary's showbiz role on TV, Giles does actually earn a living from painting pictures of other people's "clutter".

He studied at the Wimbledon Art School and paints to relax.

It was at college where the couple met, as Mary was working as a model at the time.

Giles now displays his artwork on his own website, with signed and framed prints previously selling for £250-a-go.

After his other job was revealed, fans were stunned by his very detailed artworks featuring busy interiors, elegant homes and landscapes.
