GMB’s Alex Beresford hints he’s set for Strictly Come Dancing in Twitter tease

Alex Beresford has teased fans that he could star on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The Good Morning Britain weather presenter has seen his stock soar since his on-air spat with former host Piers Morgan.

Piers sensationally quit the breakfast show after Alex criticised him for how he spoke about Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex.

But now the dust has settled, the GMB star has hinted that his forecast is looking good and asked whether he should be "brushing up" his dancing skills having believed to have caught the eyes of BBC bosses.

"Do I need to brush up on my two step and shuffle?" penned Alex to his 255.6k Twitter followers.

The 40-year-old later retweeted speculation that he and fellow GMB weather presenter Laura Tobin were being targeted by the BBC to get them to be contestants for the next series of the hit show.

Pictured standing beside his trademark weather map, Alex joked: "Sounds like a storm in a teacup," with a laughing emoji for good measure.

Alex starred on Dancing on Ice in 2018 and finished fifth on the ITV programme.

But following his highly-publicised row with Piers, Alex is understood to be regarded as hot property.

And it is reported mum-of-one Laura, 39, could also make her Strictly debut alongside her fellow GMB presenter.

Laura, who has worked for ITV for nine years, has yet to feature in any reality TV programmes.

"Strictly bosses like having an ITV daytime star as they help with audience figures, being really well-known,” a BBC source told The Sun.

"Viewers wake up to them every day – and Laura and Alex are well liked and would make good signings. It is still early in the process but both their names are in the mix."

The BBC is reportedly planning for the 2021 series of Strictly to resume its 13-show run this autumn.

The previous series was limited to nine shows because of restrictions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

"They're going to put on a full series this year," revealed the source. "That means 13 episodes and all of the themed weeks. The pinnacle will be the trip to Blackpool and that's always been the way on Strictly."

Current GMB presenters Kate Garraway, Susanna Reid and Ranvir Singh have all previously starred on Strictly.
