'Ginny & Georgia' Showrunners Tease More of Georgia's Past Will Be Revealed in Season 2
Netflix’s new show, Ginny & Georgia slowly unveiled secrets about Georgia’s life throughout the first season, giving fans an idea of why the sneaky single mom is the way she is. But after the finale, fans were still left with unanswered questions. Luckily, for season 2, showrunners plan to dive deeper into Georgia’s complicated past.
What is ‘Ginny & Georgia’ about?
Ginny & Georgia centers on the relationship between a single mom, Georgia Miller (Brianne Howey), and her teen daughter, Virginia, aka Ginny (Antonia Gentry). After Georgia’s latest husband dies in a car crash, the family, including Georgia’s young son, Austin (Diesel La Torraca), move from Texas to a small, progressive town in Massachusetts.
As the brood tries to settle into their new life, their questionable past starts getting in the way. Ginny is just trying to be a typical teenager with friends and a boyfriend, but her mom’s life choices begin weighing her down. And Georgia, who is in continuous fight or flight mode, continues to do whatever it takes — including lying, murder, and theft — to ensure her children have a good life.
What do we know about Georgia’s life so far?
Georgia’s tragic and checkered past is revealed through a series of flashbacks. As a teen (Nikki Roumel), she was forced to run away from home because of her sexually abusive stepfather. She is taken in by a biker gang and eventually meets Zion (Kyle Berry). The two fall for each other hard, and when Georgia becomes pregnant with Ginny, Zion’s parents offer to adopt the baby.
Worried that she’ll lose her daughter, Georgia goes on the run. She ends up working at a seedy hotel, where she starts an illegal gambling ring. After being arrested, she marries the hotel owner to keep Ginny in her custody but kills him shortly after.
Georgia’s last husband, a wealthy yoga studio owner, dies in a car accident, leaving her his estate. Later it is revealed that, after Georgia witnessed him inappropriately touching Ginny, she put poisonous wolfsbane in his smoothie, causing him to have a heart attack and crash his car. His ex-wife contests his will, but when an investigator asks for the body to be exhumed, Georgia has it stolen and cremated.
‘Ginny & Georgia’ season 2 should dive deeper into Georgia’s past
In a recent interview with EW, Ginny & Georgia showrunners Sarah Lampert and Debra J. Fisher teased what’s to come in season 2. The show hasn’t been officially picked up, but they do have an idea of where the story will go.
Lampert and Fisher teased that Ginny, who left town with Austin in the finale, will unknowingly follow Georgia’s footsteps. And they also promised that fans would get to see more of Georgia’s past next season.
“We want to keep talking about Ginny and Georgia for a very long time,” Fisher said.
“We can’t really talk about season 2,” Lampert added. “But what I will say is, where we always wanted season 1 to end was with Ginny protecting her mom, but by doing so, having blood on her hands.”
Ginny & Georgia is currently streaming on Netflix.
