George Clooney was 'hospitalized with pancreatitis' after losing 30 pounds 'too fast' for new role in The Midnight Sky
GEORGE Clooney was hospitalized with pancreatitis after he lost nearly 30 pounds “too fast” for his role in his latest film, The Midnight Sky.
The actor – who also directed the new Netflix movie – admitted he “wasn’t taking care” of himself as he dropped the weight which led to the 59-year-old being rushed to the ER.
While promoting the sci-fi drama, George confirmed he was hospitalized with pancreatitis just four days before he was due on set.
The two-time Oscar winner told The Mirror: “I think I was trying too hard to lose the weight quickly and probably wasn’t taking care of myself.”
He added: “It took a few weeks to get better and as a director, it’s not so easy because you need energy.
“We were out on this glacier in Finland, which made it a lot harder work. But it certainly helped with the character.”
George’s latest Hollywood venture finds him both starring in and directing the movie.
The Midnight Sky centers around his character, Augustine, as a lonely scientist in the Arctic who races to stop astronauts from returning home to a “mysterious global catastrophe.”
Felicity Jones, David Oyelowo and Kyle Chandler also act alongside the Ocean’s 11 star.
In addition to altering his weight for the role, the father-of-two admitted he was forced to grow out his facial hair.
“I grew a big ugly beard and my son loved it because he’d hide things in it, which I wouldn’t know about until I got to work and I’d be like, ‘Oh, there’s a popsicle stuck in my beard.’
“But my wife and daughter were really happy when it came off because it was very hard to find a face underneath all that mess,” he told the outlet.
Formerly famous bachelor George has been married to high-profile attorney and activist, Amal Clooney, 42, since 2014.
The couple is parents to three-year-old twins Alexander and Ella.
As the coronavirus pandemic has spread across the world, George, Amal and their kids have been spending quarantine together at their house in the Hollywood Hills.
“We really haven’t moved since February. It’s easier in Los Angeles because it’s not raining and snowing.
“So it’s a lot easier to walk out in the street,” he said of LA’s notorious weather – which is typically sunny and not too hot or cold.
The Midnight Sky marks the seventh feature-length film George has directed.
His last venture behind-the-scenes was 2017’s Suburbicon – starring longtime pal Matt Damon – which was panned by critics.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of just 28% while CinemaScore gave it a D-.
Unfortunately for George, his latest project did not receive much better praise.
It currently sits at 59% fresh on the movie critic website.
The Midnight Sky will be released on Netflix and in select theaters on December 23, 2020.
