Channel 4 viewers were jetted off to Torremolinos, Spain on Friday afternoon as they got another chance to see if A Place in the Sun property expert Scarlette Douglas could find couple Jacqueline and Chris their dream place abroad. With £150,000 to play with, as well as a vast extra £50,000 wriggle room, Scarlette needed to know exactly what it was the pair were after. But before the trio could even set out on their property search, it’s fair to say Jacqueline wasn’t expecting some of her other half’s demands.

As the A Place in the Sun guests conversed with Scarlette, the host asked: “This is the first time you’re buying a property together – how do you think it’s going to go?”

“We’ve lived together for a few years so we know what each other’s like,” Jacqueline insisted, before adding: “The actual property, I think maybe I’ll get the final say.”

Chris let out a chuckle as he agreed with his partner’s stance before Scarlette delved into the details: “Let’s talk about what you want from a property first.”

“I definitely would like a sea view, if I can’t see the sea it’s pointless me being here,” Jacqueline said, prompting Scarlette to ponder: “(Are) distant sea views okay?”

Chris then joked: “As long as we don’t have to look at it through binoculars then we’re fine.”

The pair continued with their demands as Jacqueline added they were after a two-bed place, although Chris pointed out: “But we could compromise on one bedroom with a big living space.”

When asked about a pool, Jacqueline admitted she’d “love” a pool while Chris weighed in: “Just something to dip the toe in, it doesn’t have to be an Olympic size one, just to get a few strokes in really.”

Scarlette then brought up Chris passion for motorbikes and how that may effect the search.

“So Chris, you’ve mentioned motorbikes,” the Channel 4 presenter said. “I’m guessing you’re going to need space for these.”

Agreeing that it would definitely be something to take into consideration, Chris replied: “A two bike space.”

However, it soon became clear Jacqueline wasn’t on the same page as her husband and a look of surprise descended onto her face.

Interrupting her husband’s demands, a blindsided Jacqueline interjected: “Flipping heck! How many?”

But Chris wasn’t to be deterred on his requirements as he joked: “A big Triumph [bike], and a small moped,” he added while pointing to his other half.

Scarlette shared a laugh with the couple before they revealed the had a budget of £150,000 to play with but with an extra £50,000 wriggle room if they fall in love with a property.

Despite the pair butting head on some of the demands, Scarlette got to work and lined up five fabulous properties that fitted the bill.

And while a number of properties were rejected, Chris and Jacqueline did reconvene with Scarlette at the end of the search to put in an offer on one of her listings.

The two-bed apartment in Benalmadena was just a stone’s throw from the beach and instantly became the frontrunner.

However, listed at £204,000, Chris and Jacqueline hoped to negotiate with the vendor to bring the price further down to their budget.

The pair offered £170,000 for the apartment, insisting it needed work doing to it for them to make the most of it.

The vendor would only go as low as £187,000, however, and with the couple refusing to budge, Chris and Jacqueline left Spain empty-handed.

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4.
