Escape to the Chateau has returned for a new series so Channel 4 viewers can continue watching Dick Strawbridge and wife Angel Adoree renovate their French home, Chateau de la Motte-Husson. In the opening episode of season seven, Angel reprimanded Dick for pinching her derriere when she was trying to focus on revamping the granary store.
During the episode, the couple turned their focus onto renovating a 150-year-old granary store that is part of their chateau’s original coach house.
The plan was to transform a third of the former store into their permanent bedroom complete with a luxurious bathroom and walk-in wardrobe.
While designer Angel was determined to start work on their bedroom suite, Dick seemed in a far more playful mood than his wife.
When the pair were climbing the stairs to work out measurements for their new bedroom Dick kept pinching Angel’s bottom.
She snapped at him: “Ouch, will you stop pinching my bum?”
Once they got up into the granary store they spoke with a builder about which walls they wanted to be knocked down to allow plenty of light into the room.
Dick said: “I want a way of making the sun get into my room, it’s as simple as that.”
Thanks to Dick’s engineering expertise, he and the builder were able to instal large cylinders through the granary store’s roof to bring natural light into the room.
During the rest of the episode, Dick was eager to cut back the foliage on 12-acre grounds.
A wrapped up Angel joined Dick outside in the snow and he explained he wanted to make a start by cutting back her “overgrown” eucalyptus trees.
Angel appeared less than impressed with Dick’s idea and warned him not to hack down her trees.
When Dick started sawing into the first eucalyptus tree she remarked: “Oh my goodness, I just can’t look. Honestly, I just don’t feel well.”
Angel, 43, and Dick, 62, bought the 45 room Chateau, near Nantes in France, back in 2015.
The extravagant castle, which has 78 windows, 12 acres and one moat, was purchased by the couple for just £280,000.
The chateau had been empty for four decades before Dick and Angel moved in and it had no heating, running water or electricity.
For the past six years, the duo has transformed it into an idyllic home and breathtaking wedding venue.
Dick previously worked as a lieutenant colonel and went on to appear in Scrapheap Challenge following his retirement in 2001, where Angel first appeared on the small screen in 2010 on an episode of Dragons’ Den
After undertaking extensive renovations, their chateau is now thought to be worth more than £2million.
The couple also rent out the chateau as a wedding and party venue and holidaymakers can also stay if they wish.
Escape To The Chateau continues next Sunday on Channel 4.
