Emmerdale spoiler sees Laura Norton return as Kerry Wyatt in ‘really dark’ storyline

It's been almost a year since actress Laura Norton was last seen on Emmerdale, but her character Kerry Wyatt is set to make her long-awaited return in next week's episodes.

Having left without much of an explanation, there's a certain amount of mystery surrounding her character at the moment. And, as the village attempts to recover from the shocking events of survival week, the one thing we know is that Kerry isn't coming back to happy old Emmerdale.

In fact, the circumstances in which she emerges are pretty dark indeed. Having figured out how rich Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) is, Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) hatch a plan to rob her house.

However, they're caught in the act by a cleaning maid and Charity is taken aback when she realises it's Kerry.

When Chloe returns home early, Kerry covers for the devious pair but it quickly becomes clear that something is amiss in the household. Kerry asks Charity and Mack to forget that they've seen her and warns them to stay away in the future.

In an interview with The Mirror, Laura said: "[Kerry has] got a job as a cleaner/dogsbody for a family in a multimillion-pound mansion.

"She forms a bond with her employer's daughter but, while the daughter, Chloe, is lovely, she realises that the father is dodgy.

"It's really dark stuff and she starts to try to come up with ways to get away. There are a few interwoven storylines."

So, it looks like Kerry is about to be flung into some pretty hard-hitting stuff. Meanwhile, the entire village is feeling the effects of Andrea’s death – except for depraved murderer Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu), who seems to be enjoying the whole thing.

Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) convinces Kim Tate (Claire King) to hold a memorial service for Andrea to help little Millie come to terms with the loss of her mum. Kim agrees and hopes it will bring Jamie Tate (Alex Lincoln) back, which worries Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) – but Gabby’s appalled when Kim promises Millie Tate (Willow Bell) that her daddy will be at the service.

When the day rolls around, Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) returns to a mixed reception from Kim. As the memorial commences, Kim looks longingly at the road outside the church, desperate for Jamie to show.

Her spirits are raised when she sees a car arriving, but her hopes are soon dashed when she realises it’s Andrea’s mum, Hazel. With another relative in the picture, could Kim stand to lose Millie as well?

Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell) helps Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) spread the word around the village about his new community allotment. He seems to have found his spark again, which is a welcome relief for Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi).

The project blows up when a video promoting the allotment goes viral, causing a journalist to come by for a visit.

With some words of encouragement from Amelia and a little help from the village youth, Liam is able to declare the ‘Leanna Cavanagh Good Mood Food Allotment’ open.

Emmerdale continues on weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
