Emmerdale fans react as ITV soap gives update on Charley Webb’s Debbie Dingle

Emmerdale fans have been eagerly awaiting news on whether Charley Webb’s character Debbie Dingle will be making her big comeback to the village.

Now, the ITV soap has given viewers an update, as some of the Dales’ most popular characters discussed Debbie and her whereabouts in a recent episode of the show.

In an instalment which aired earlier this week, Debbie’s aunt Chas Dingle (played by Lucy Pargeter) told husband Paddy (played by Dominic Brunt): “Debbie’s not coming home for Christmas.”

She then reminded viewers that Debbie was now living in Scotland and wouldn’t be on our screens any time soon, saying: “We could go to her? I know Bear’s keen on visiting Scotland?”

According to reports, the door has been open for actress Charley to return when she wants to step back into Debbie’s shoes.

However, the recent scene has seemingly dashed fans’ hopes that it will happen in the near future.

Taking to Twitter, many shared their disappointment and said they’d like to see Debbie back in the village causing trouble.

One wrote: “I wish Debbie would make a comeback and stay for more than a month.”

Another added: “Gutted Debbie’s not coming home for Christmas.”

The actress, who is married to co-star Matthew Wolfenden (David Metcalfe), left the soap in 2019 to go on maternity leave where she welcomed her third son, Ace.

She then surprised soap fans by making a brief appearance last Christmas when she arrived in the village to reveal she’d been sleeping with engaged Al Chapman (Michael Wildman).

Previously speaking about whether Debbie would be back on the ITV soap, Charley’s partner Matthew suggested it might be a while off – especially with the pandemic ongoing.

He explained: “To be honest filming there at the moment with Covid regulations is tough.”

“Everyone's rallied round and made it what it is. But yeah. I think for her to go back now when all this is still happening is not what she wants to do.”

He then added: "I think she'll wait until all the restrictions have dropped."
