Emmerdale fans heartbroken as distraught Graham plays emotional voicemail from Joe from before his death

Joe, played by Ned Porteous, met an untimely death after being punched in the face by Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and hitting his head on a rock.

Graham (Andrew Scarborough) put Joe’s body in the boot of his car and drove him to a remote spote where he left him under a bridge.

And the character tugged on viewers’ heartstrings this evening when he appeared “broken” as he played back a voicemail from the man he thought of as his son.

In the message, Joe said: “I love you too. There, you thought I’d never say it.

“I’d always wished for a dad like you. One that I could scrap with and one that could teach me stuff, get me out of trouble.

“Then you came along, a real life James Bond.”

Taking to Twitter to voice their sadness, one soap fan wrote: “Cor blimey! Can we please have a few episodes of #Emmerdale that don’t leave me bawling my eyes out? That said, I should also say well done folks – it’s b**ody brilliant telly!”

Another viewer wrote: “Heartbreaking scenes tonight @andrewscarboro stop making me cry!”
Someone else tweeted: “I feel so sorry for Graham, my heart breaks for that poor man. Joe was probably the closes to his own child he would ever have.”
