Emma 'jailed over death' in Corrie as Alexandra Mardell quits

Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell has quit the show, it has been revealed.

The actress, who plays Emma Brooker, will film her final scenes for the ITV soap later this month, but will remain on screen until April.

‘Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life,’ said the soap star.

‘Four years have gone so fast.

‘Compared to other cast members I still feel like a newbie, which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult.

Alexandra told The Sun that she feels now is the ‘right time’ to leave the show.

‘I can’t thank everyone at Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt stories,’ she continued to the publication.

But with Emma set to leave the eponymous street, the question is: just how will she leave the cobbles?

According to The Sun, the door has been left open for the character to return in the future, which rules out the possibility of her dying.

But could Emma end up behind bars?

The barmaid, as viewers know, is struggling with the guilt of her recent actions, after she and Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) knocked down pensioner Ted at the beginning of the year.

Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) came to her and Faye’s rescue, as he got rid of any potential evidence that could tie them to the crime.

Emma, however, made an appearance at the funeral, and while there, she spoke to Ted’s grandson.

What’s more, an e-fit drawing that bears a resemblance to her has been circulated online, so all the signs seemingly point towards her ending up in prison.

But will theory this come to pass?

Emma made her on-screen debut in 2018, and swiftly became a fan-favourite, as she became a barmaid at the Rovers Return and featured in a number of huge storylines.
