EastEnders star Lorraine Stanley surprises elderly neighbour on his birthday

People who have had birthdays during the coronavirus lockdown have been finding them pretty bizarre, but EastEnders star Lorraine Stanley (Karen Taylor) made sure her elderly neighbour had a surprise waiting for him on his big day.

The star explained that she had gathered her neighbours to sing 95-year-old Allen Happy Birthday as he waved from his front door.

Sharing a video of the sweet moment, she said: ‘So our neighbour, Allen is 95 today, I arranged all of the neighbours at 3.45pm to sing happy birthday to him!!

‘You can’t see a lot of the people on the street as we were socially distancing but they were all out with banners #corona #socialdistancing #communityspirit.’

With many feeling like they’re in need of some good news, it’s definitely a welcome update!

Lorraine’s video has clearly given her fans and friends a smile, with one writing: ‘Love this you are a [gem],’ and another adding: ‘Awww that’s lovely.’

No lies detected.

Boris Johnson has ordered people to stay indoors, except for essential journeys, amid the pandemic, with over-70s being told to self-isolate for 12 weeks.

Meanwhile, EastEnders has been forced to shut down production, meaning that the popular soap might temporarily be removed from screens at some point.

As episodes have been filmed six to eight weeks in advance and it is not known how long the shutdown will last, it remains to be seen how high the impact will be on scheduling.

A BBC spokesperson said in a statement: ‘In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice. The decision was made after the latest government update.

‘We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and Public Health England.’

In the wake of the news, Lorraine was quick to make the best of a bad situation, offering her services as a cleaner.

She added: ‘Or a singer? Good to go at Clubs, pubs, weddings, funerals, bar mitzvah’s? Audience’s of less than 5 preferably’.

Let’s hope she can get back to Albert Square pronto!
