EastEnders star is worlds away from Walford in first trailer for new BBC thriller The Girl Before

THE BBC has premiered its dramatic first-look trailer for its new thriller The Girl Before – and EastEnders fans may just recognise one of its stars.

The four-part psychological thriller series tells the story of Jane, who gets the chance to move into a beautiful house designed by an enigmatic architect.

But there's a catch – the occupants must abide by his odd list of rules.

The plot revolves around Jane, who starts to feel the house changing her in unexpected ways.

However, when she makes the shocking discovery about her predecessor Emma, she's forced to confront unnerving similarities.

As the two women's timelines interweave, Jane begins to question if her fate will be the same as the girl before.

The adaptation of JP Delaney's bestselling novel boasts a star-studded cast, including Loki star Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Selma's David Oyelowo and former EastEnders actors Jessica Plummer and Ben Hardy.

The series hails from director Lisa Brühlman, who previously worked on Killing Eve, and original author JP Delaney is also co-writing the screenplay alongside Marissa Lestrade.

The EastEnders stars will play a couple in the series, with Hardy – who has appeared in titles such as Bohemian Rhapsody, 6 Underground, and X-Men: Apocalypse since quitting EastEnders in 2015 – portraying Emma's boyfriend Simon, according to Variety.

The synopsis for the show reads: "Jane starts to feel the house changing her in unexpected ways, but when she makes the shocking discovery about her predecessor Emma, she's forced to confront unnerving similarities.

“As the two women's timelines interweave, Jane begins to question if her fate will be the same as the girl before.”

The Girl Before premieres on BBC One on Sunday, December 19 at 9pm.
