Janine Butcher (played by Charlie Brooks) is set to return to the Square in the next couple of months but she won’t be making the comeback alone as it has been reported her daughter, Scarlett (Tabitha Byron) will be in tow. There has been speculation the EastEnders favourite will be caught up in a fire – did Scarlett have anything to do with starting the blaze?
Earlier this summer, the BBC announced Charlie would be reprising her role and at the time, she said she was “beyond excited to be slipping back into Janine’s shoes and returning to the Square”.
“The time feels right and I can’t wait to find out what she’s been up to for the last seven years! She is and always has been SO much fun to play. Feels a bit like coming home. It’s good to be back.”
And her return it set to “send shockwaves around Walford” apparently.
“With enemies to boot around every corner, trouble will no doubt follow her back to E20,” the tease continued.
Jon Sen, the Executive Producer on the soap added: “Janine is one of EastEnders most iconic characters who is loved, and often despised, in equal measure by viewers and all those in Walford.
“Charlie’s portrayal of Janine over the years has created some of EastEnders most memorable moments and we are all really excited to see Charlie bring her incredible portrayal of Janine back again.
“We have lots of drama in store for Janine, in fact it may be wise for some of the residents of Walford to invest in some slip-on shoes…”
And it seems she won’t be the only one embroiled in the drama as daughter Scarlett could be the troublemaker.
Recent reports have suggested Scarlett will be played by Tabitha Byron – best known for her role as Shelia in last year’s critically acclaimed anthology Small Axe.
The actress made her debut four years ago in the children’s TV show Hetty Feather, and another recent part she played was Dig Girl in HBO’s mind-trip The Third Day.
So what’s in store for her in EastEnders?
Well it seems both Scarlett and Janine are going to be involved in a fire of some sort after recent images from filmed saw Janine covers in soot and fire dust.

An insider said Janine’s entry storyline will feature Kat Slater’s (Jessie Wallace) son, Tommy Moon.
It is Scarlett who is responsible for the blaze after she tries to kill Tommy by starting a fire in the building, the Metro reports.
From this, the “potential for Janine is huge” as she will have “enemies all around the Square” and an insider said she “isn’t afraid to kill to get her own way”.
“It could have huge repercussions for some of the big names in EastEnders. She’s not going to come back and play nice,” the publication explained.
And this explosion is said to take the soap through the rest of the year.
So why did Scarlett start the fire and what is her relationship like with Tommy?
Coronation Street viewers are seeing Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) start fires and target her family in a child psychopath storyline, perhaps there is a similar one in EastEnders to Scarlett?
Eastenders returns tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
