Doctor Who episode 3 trailer sees the Doctor and her companions protect a historical figure

Doctor Who has given fans their first glimpse of episode three, which will feature none other than black civil rights campaigner Rosa Parks.

After an energetic second episode – which unveiled a new title sequence and TARDIS – the trailer was dropped for next week’s instalment, titled simply ‘Rosa’.

Check out the trailer below.

The third episode will see Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor take her companions on their first journey back in time to the Deep South of America, specifically the racially segregated world of Alabama in 1955, where they’ll meet the historical figure (played by Sherlock actress Vinette Robinson).

But, as you’d expect, someone (probably an alien) is out to change the course of history.

The trailer sees the Doctor rally her new companions to “keep history in order”, as they’re chased by a mysterious individual with a rather dangerous-looking laser pen.

Written by Malorie Blackman and Chris Chibnall, and directed by Mark Tonderai, ‘Rosa’ also guest stars Revenge actor Josh Bowman.

The show has also released details about episode four ‘Arachnids in the UK’, which will see the Doctor, Yaz, Graham and Ryan return to Sheffield only to discover an infestation of, er, arachnids.

‘Arachnids in the UK’ guest stars Sex and the City‘s Chris Noth and Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati, and is written by Chris Chibnall, and directed by Sallie Aprahamian.

Doctor Who returns with episode 3 ‘Rosa’ on Sunday (October 21) on BBC One.
